Why Turkey?

If you do not know by now, you will after this post. My wife and I feel that God has called us to the country of Turkey to be missionaries. To take the Gospel, see souls saved, people discipled and churches planted throughout all Turkey. The question comes up all the time, “Why Turkey?” Let me answer that with how God confirmed in my heart,Turkey and the reason for Turkey. It all started while teaching weekly English classes at Vision Baptist Church. My wife and I both teach, and we had a Turkish family come to the classes. During the course of the year, there were many times I only had the Turkish husband in my class. I looked forward to these classes, as we would talk about Turkey. As he told me about Turkey, my heart began to be burdened for that country. But also during our conversations, the Gospel would come up. Time and time again I would share the Gospel with him and time and time again he would walk away unchanged. It breaks my heart knowing that if he does not trust Christ he will die and go to hell. The more we talked, the more I learned about Turkey. The more I learned about Turkey, the more my heart ached for the country and the need of the Gospel there. The population is a little over eighty million. It is around 99% Muslim with less than half of 1% claiming to be Christian. Of the Turkish people in the country, there is said to be no more than five thousand true Christians. This country is in need of the Gospel. It is in need of people to go and take the Gospel to them. People just like my Turkish friends, who grew up in Turkey as Muslims but honestly do not fully know what it means or even know what it all entails. They are doing what their parents taught them to do and following after a religion that leads them straight to hell. My heart aches for the country of Turkey. At the most, there are 120 gospel preaching churches in the entire country! If you look in Acts 19:10 it says, “And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.” Paul spent two years in Ephesus teaching, and because of this all of Asia Minor heard the word of the Lord. Turkey is Asia Minor. Turkey was where the seven churches in Revelation were. A country that at one time was full of the Gospel and everyone had heard. But now, in that same area, almost none have heard the word of the Lord and the gospel. Almost none know how to get to heaven. Almost none have any idea who Jesus Christ is and what He did for them. You ask me why Turkey and I tell you because they need the Gospel. I want to take the Gospel there and see God work mightily. I want the country to go from almost none know the word of the Lord to where all will know and hear the Gospel! I want to see God turn Turkey upside down with the Gospel! Turkey is in desperate need of the Gospel and that is why God has led my wife and myself there. My question to you is, if you see the same great need that I see, what will you do about it?
