Facing a king who wants to kill you is not “safety first.”

Facing a king who wants to kill you is not “safety first.”

Elijah stormed onto the scene telling King Ahab it would not rain, then he disappeared for a time. Well, now he reappears and throws down the gauntlet. He asks Ahab to get all Israel and the prophets of Baal together and meet him on Mt. Carmel. Once there, he challenges the people of Israel to prove who really is God. He les the prophets of Baal go first and for hours they try to get fire to fall from heaven, but nothing. Then it is Elijah’s turn to go. After he fixes the altar and prepares it, he then asks for water to be dumped on the offering. He asks for more and more water till there is water that has filled up the ditch he dug around the altar. Then he stands back and prays to God to answer. Fire falls from heaven proving that God is the one true God. Elijah disregarded his safety to show to all Israel who the one true God was. He could have been put in prison or worse, killed, but he did not care. He stepped out in faith and showed how big his God was. We should not be afraid to step out in faith and prove to the world who our God is and how He is the one true God. Forget about your safety and comfort and realize there is a world out there following after false gods and we have the answer they are looking for. Let’s be like Elijah and trust God to work in and through us, to share the gospel to the whole world!
