Paul’s Thoughts on the Great Commission: That I May Make It Manifest!

That I May Make It Manifest! — Colossians 4:3-4

Colossians 4:3-4 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

Paul once again was asking people to pray for him. He was asking that a door of utterance would be opened. He was asking for opportunities for them to preach Christ and share the Gospel! He then reveals that he is in jail because he was preaching Christ and the Gospel! He did not care though that he was in prison for the sake of the Gospel. His only real care and desire was to preach the Gospel! He then says that he wants to make the Gospel known and that is how he ought or should speak! Paul was asking not only for opportunities to preach but that he would preach the Gospel and not be ashamed of it. He realized and knew he ought and should preach the gospel! Are we making known the Gospel in our world today?

Many Christians are not speaking how they ought to speak, rather they are keeping the message of salvation quiet and to themselves! Paul realized and knew that he had to preach the Gospel. It was his command and his job and he had to preach the Gospel because he was obeying the command of Christ! We as Christians have the same command binding to us! We ought to be speaking and preaching the Gospel! We need to be praying that God will open doors for us to speak! But ask we pray for doors to be opened we must speak the Gospel as and when and while God is opening the doors! We should also be willing to suffer for preaching the Gospel! We should not be afraid of jail or death if we preach the Gospel, rather, we must boldly preach and get the Gospel all around the world!

The most important thing in this passage is the Gospel is how we ought to speak! It should be what we are doing and speaking all the time! We need to speak the Gospel and not just here in the US. We must speak the Gospel all around the world! Billions are held in bondage by their sin and we have the answer! If Christians spoke the Gospel like they were supposed to, we could see the world reached with the Gospel in this generation! Will you pray for open doors all around the world! Will you stop worrying about the consequences of preaching the Gospel and start speaking like you are suppose to speak; that is speaking the Gospel to a lost and dying world?
