Paul’s Thoughts on the Great Commission: Bringing Forth Fruit

Bringing Forth Fruit! — Colossians 1:5-6

Colossians 1:5-6 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

The Gospel had come unto Colossae, but also to the world! But what Paul says next is amazing. He says as the Gospel has and continues to go throughout the whole world it brings forth fruit! Paul’s mindset about the Gospel was that as it was preached, it would bring forth fruit! He knew the Gospel was powerful and could and would change lives, but it had to be preached or there would be no fruit! In the world today many people are quick to say the Gospel no longer works! They say we have to adjust it, or that the people and places were different in Paul’s day. But that is not true at all. The Gospel is still as powerful today as it was in Paul’s day and when it is preached it will bring forth fruit! The problem today is we don’t have men and women of God preaching the Gospel to the world! If we would get the Gospel and take it all across the world we would see fruit! Sadly, the world is without a large Gospel witness, but that can change! Why not give your life to go and get the Gospel to the world! Do not be afraid, just trust God and trust the fact that as the Gospel is preached it will bring forth fruit no matter where it is preached! There may be areas where the Gospel is more fruitful than others, but as Paul is saying here the Gospel will bring forth fruit! What are we waiting for? Let’s preach the Gospel and get it to the world and see the fruit of the Gospel!
