A Challenge to Live a Holy Life
A Challenge to Live a Holy Life
I Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Most in the world today do not live any kind of holy life. Their lives are filled with sinful living and doing what pleases them. Today even Christians are crossing that line and living lives filled with sin. They think that it is only a little sin and it doesn’t hurt them. But this week the challenge is for you to live a holy life! As a Christian we should be living holy lives! We should be seeking to imitate Christ and be holy as he is holy! Are you living a holy life or are you living like the world? Living a holy life does not mean you will not sin. We all mess up, but living a holy life means we will not tolerate sin and allow it in our lives and if we do mess up, we seek forgiveness from God and then get back to living a holy life. Let’s look at reasons we should live a holy life!
- It is commanded— I Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
We have been commanded by God to live a holy life. He has asked us to be holy because He is holy. God cannot tolerate sin and sent Christ to die on the cross for our sins. Once we are saved in the eyes of God we are holy, but that does not give us a license to live like we want. Rather, we should realize God wants us to be holy and wants to use us. We are commanded to be holy and because of that we should want to live a holy life.
- To follow Christ’s example— I Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.
Not only are we commanded to be holy, but we should be holy because Christ set us the example of being holy! He came and lived on the earth just like you and me. He was tempted and went through similar trials and tests that we do and He lived a holy life. We should strive to be like Christ. As Christians, that means striving to live a holy life!
- Our body is not our own— 1 Corinthians 6:19 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
We are not our own- we are bought with a price. Not only are we bought with a price but our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost indwells us. That means we should live a holy life because we are not living for ourselves- we are living for God! The Holy Ghost cannot use a dirty vessel. He needs one that is holy. Living a holy life will mean that you are available for the Holy Ghost not only to lead you, but also to use you!
- To prove the will of God in your life— Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We are not to be like the world or live like the world. We are, rather, to be transformed by God and His Word. This transformation leads to living a holy life. By being transformed by letting the Word of God renew your mind, you allow God to work in your life. This also allows God to lead and direct in your life because you are living a holy life and are not conformed to the world. By living a holy life it allows God to show you His will for your life! If you want to know God’s will for your life it starts by living a holy life and being transformed by the Word of God
- To show light in a dark world— 1 Peter 2:9 – But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
When we get saved, we are set apart from the world. God wants us to live a holy life so that we can shew forth to the world that there is something different about Christ and Christians. Living a holy life allows the world to see we are different. That Christ has changed us and He can change them as well. By living a holy life you are showing the Light of the World to a dark world. If we live a holy life it allows us to be better witness to the world because they can see the difference in our lives.
The challenge is for you to live a holy life. All Christians should be living a holy life but so few do. They think it is ok to live in sin. But we have victory over sin because of Christ! We do not have to live a life of sin and we should not want to live a life of sin! I dare you to live a holy life! But remember you cannot do it on your own, the only way is through Christ!
