Why So Few People Become Missionaries: People Aren’t Looking to the Field, They Are Just Talking About the Need!

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest

One thing that we can all agree on is that there is a great need in the world. So often the discussion about need goes to things like food, peace, medicine, orphanages and things like that. But truly, as we look at the world, we can and should see the need for the gospel! There are many problems all around the world and truly, the only thing that will fix most of those problems is the gospel! However, we are guilty in our churches of talking about the need but never seriously looking at the field. We mention there is a need, but then we don’t look at the field and see the harvest that is there. We don’t see the field, we just say “Oh, there is a need.” But just saying there is a need is not enough. No, we need to truly look at the fields and see they are white to harvest. Instead of talking about the need, how can we look at the field and let others see the field?

• Study countries— Go and study countries. Look at the countries and see the need in these countries. Look at them not as just needy but as a wide open field ready for harvest.
• Visit the field— So often we talk about need, but have never gone outside of our own town, city or state. Go take a trip to other countries, take others on the trip with you and you will not just see the need and talk about the need, you will see the field and see what needs to be done there! Who knows, by doing these things, God could direct you into missions or those that go with you into missions.
• Pray for countries— Do not just vaguely pray over countries. Have facts, stats, religions and pictures of the people and seriously pray for these countries. As you pray for the need in the country, you will actually see the field and see the harvest and the work that needs to be done there.
• Stop just talking about the need and start looking to the fields— The fields are white to harvest, but we are stuck just talking about HOW to harvest the crops or that there is a NEED to harvest the crops, but never get our hands dirty or do anything about it! Why don’t you look at the field and see the need and DO something about it? 

Let’s stop talking about the need and start looking to the field and not only really, truly see the need, but see the solution to the need! That solution is sending more people, raising more people to go and maybe even going ourselves. Let’s stop talking, start seeing and actually doing!
