Why So Few People Become Missionaries Part 6

Why So Few People Become Missionaries: It is Outside Our Comfort Zone

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service

A big problem in Christianity today is that we get this mindset about what Christianity is. We think we are saved to live a comfortable, Christian life, that God would never want us to go outside of our comforts and that He saved us to live the life we want. But that is not true at all! Look at the verse above. So often, we treat serving God and giving our life to God as this big sacrifice, but the truth is, it is not this large sacrifice. It is reasonable! It is what we should do!

However, today we let this lie live in our churches that we can have a comfortable Christianity and not have to get out of our comfort zone. We portray this to young people and all throughout our churches, and people get this mindset that they are saved and good, and now they just need to faithfully attend and give. They don’t have to get outside of their comfort zone. But Christ would say He saved us to live outside our comfort zone, and we need to present our lives to Him because it is reasonable. He died for us. We should be willing to live our lives for Him. That means we should be willing to step out of our comfort zone and get the gospel to the whole world!

We are not called to be comfortable Christians, rather we are called to be conformed Christians— conformed to the image of Christ. Christ did not live a comfortable Christian life; He lived a life outside His comfort zone. Are you willing to live outside your comfort zone for the sake of Christ? That should never be a question we have to ask because we should realize it is reasonable, and we should all be living outside our comfort zone for Christ! Let’s start doing what Christ deems reasonable and live out of our comfort zone for the sake of the gospel!
