The Deputation Process: Followup After the Meeting!

You have now finished the meeting at a church and are moving on to the next meeting. What do you need to do? How can you stay in front of the church, because after you leave more missionaries are coming? Today we are going to look at some ways of following up and staying in touch with churches you have been with.

  1. Thank you notes— As soon as you have been to a church, you need to send them a thank you note. Thank them for allowing you to come and present, thank them for anything they did for you, and thank them for their interest in getting the Gospel to your country. This is your first point of followup after a meeting!
  2. Weekly updates—Each week, email a weekly update. You should try to get each pastor’s email address so you can send these to the pastor. This helps you stay in front of him and his people. They do not have to be fancy, but just an update on where you have been, what you have done, and how God has been blessing in your life!
  3. Send a monthly prayer letter— I recommend as soon as you book a meeting with a church to add them to your prayer letter list, but if that is too soon then you need to make sure after you have been there, they start to receive your monthly prayer letter. This is way to stay in touch with them and keep them informed on what is going on in your life and ministry! These do not take long to write (5-10 minutes usually) and are a key to staying in contact with churches you have been to.
  4. Have a monthly followup process with churches you have been to— Send things to all the churches you have been to, monthly. This can be letters, postcards, holiday cards, flags, videos, etc. This is a good way to touch back with a church each month and continue to thank them for allowing you to come in, as well as keep you in front of them. There are many more things you can do, but you should make sure that everything you send has your picture on it! This will help keep your face in front of the pastor and the church.
  5. Post things to your social media pages— Write blog articles and post them to your social media pages. Put pictures up of where you have been or even of your country and ask people to pray for you and your country. This is a great way to keep yourself in front of people and what is going on in your life! With the rise of live video you can also post live video updates and devotions from time to time as well. The use of social media is very helpful in followup and keeping your name and ministry in front of people!

These are just a few ideas of ways to followup and keep your name in front of pastors and churches.
