Missions and Technology: Social Media
Missions and Technology: Social Media
Social media has become a part of almost everyone’s lives these days. There are several, different platforms out there and more will probably come and go. Even the big ones we will talk about in the next two articles could disappear one day, but while we have them, we should use them! Social media is a great way to connect with people and also a great way to have a platform to promote missions and the need in your country and around the world. There are good and bad on each social media site, but I say we put out as much good content as we can! Let’s look at three, social media platforms today.
Youtube: Youtube is a great way to show videos and put up interviews to talk about missions and the need in the world. Churches can use this to put up service videos and so can missionaries. This is a great way to get your message out all around the world! Why not, also, put up videos of you teaching, preaching or challenging people! YouTube is a great way to do this and both, churches and missionaries, should use this!
Twitter: Twitter has a very large audience. Many businesses use this, but we, as missionaries and churches, can use it as well. You are limited on how long your posts can be, so make sure to keep that in mind, but you can also post videos and pictures on this website. Why not put up Bible verses, short quotes or mission quotes. Use Twitter as a way to reach people! Put up links to your livestream services or videos you have. You can use Twitter as another means to reach people all around the world.
Instagram: Everyone loves to look at pictures. That is why Instagram is so popular. Why can’t we, as missionaries and churches, use this to our advantage? Put up pictures of events happening in your country. Take pictures of flyers for events at your church. Post pictures of people you are training and services that are going on in your field. Put up pictures of Bible verses and mission quotes! We can use this to help promote the gospel and the need all around the world! What better way, than putting up pictures and proclaiming the great need of the gospel in and around the whole world!
Next week, we will look at the big social media called Facebook, but these three, we looked at today, are just as important. Learn how to use them, properly and it can help your church, your ministry and also to help raise up more laborers to go take the gospel all around the world! As with everything, be wise with what you say and put up because if you are hateful or hurtful, your words can come back to hurt you down the road. Why not just show the love of Christ to a lost and dying world!
